| Personal data | Sang Hyang Tunggal is the son of Sang Hyang Wenang who resides in heaven of Kahyangan Alang-Alang Kumitir or Ondar-Andir Bawana at Tampaksiring Palace. Sang Hyang Tunggal married Dewi Darmani, the daughter of Sang Hyang Darmajaka (Darmakaya), the king of Kahyangan Keling (the land of Selong) who was none other than Sang Hyang Wenang's own older brother. Then Sang Hyang Tunggal was crowned king in Kahyangan Keling, replacing Sang Hyang Darmajaka. From his marriage with Dewi Darmani, Sang Hyang Tunggal was blessed with several children in the form of 'akyan' (subtle bodies), named: Sang Hyang Rudra, Sang Hyang Rancasan / Dewa Esa, Sang Hyang Dewanjali and Sang Hyang Darmastuti. Sang Hyang Tunggal also married Dewi Wirandi (daughter of the demon king Sang Hyang Rekatatama) and is the father of Batara Ismaya (Semar), Batara Antaga (Togog), and Batara Manikmaya (Bathara Guru). |

Tunggal – (Sang Hyang) – All stories
In the Purwakanda manuscript, Sang Hyang Tunggal and Dewi Wirandi (daughter of the demon king Sang Hyang Rekatatama) had four sons, each named Bathara Puguh, Bathara Punggung, Bathara Manan and Bathara Samba. One day the news came that the throne would be given to Bathara Samba. Because they felt jealous, the three older brothers kidnapped Samba and tortured him, but their actions were discovered by Sanghyang Tunggal. Sanghyang Tunggal then cursed his three sons to be ugly. Puguh changed his name to Togog, while Punggung changed to Semar and became the nanny of the Samba lineage, who was titled Batara Guru. While Manan was pardoned and named Batara Narada and was appointed as Batara Guru's adviser.
Sang Hyang Tunggal who loved to read Serat (book) Pustaka Darya which was in the form of sound without literature (without writing) became interested in the story of the journey of Sang Hyang Nurcahya (his great grandfather). He decided to imitate his great grandfather, namely to meditate to achieve his dream of becoming a ruler in the three layers of the world (Tribuana / Triloka). He then handed over Kahyangan Keling to his eldest son, Sang Hyang Rudra.
Sang Hyang Tunggal then meditated and slept on a flat rock. He meditated so quietly that when he woke up he was in a beautiful palace at the bottom of the ocean. Unknowingly, Sang Hyang Tunggal had been kidnapped by a crab demon king named Sang Hyang Rekatama (Sang Hyang Yuyut) to be married to his daughter. Sang Hyang Rekatama's daughter named Dewi Wirandi (Dewi Rekatawati) admitted that she had met Sang Hyang Tunggal in her dream and fell in love with him. Because that was the way to realize her dreams, Sang Hyang Tunggal accepted the proposal.
Sang Hyang Tunggal then took Dewi Wirandi (Dewi Rekatawati) to the Jonggring Salaka palace (Kahyangan Suralaya) on Mount Tengguru (Himalaya) to get her father's blessing. Then Sang Hyang Wenang handed over Kahyangan Suralaya to Sang Hyang Tunggal. And then Sang Hyang Wenang died, living in the heaven of Awang-Uwung Kumitir. Sang Hyang Tunggal now resides in Kahyangan Suralaya with his two wives, Dewi Darmani and Dewi Wirandi. At that time, Kahyangan Suralaya was still uninhabited apart from the three of them.
Once upon a time, Dewi Wirandi, who was heavily pregnant, gave birth, but what the goddess gave birth to was not a baby, but an egg. Sang Hyang Tunggal meditated silently and entered the heaven of Awang Uwung Kumitir. In front of Sang Hyang Wenang, he told about the egg that was born by his wife. Sang Hyang Wenang gave instructions and gave the water of life 'Tirta Kamandalu' to Sang Hyang Tunggal. According to his father's instructions, he worshipped the egg until it cracked and shattered into three parts, the shell, the white and the red of the egg. Sang Hyang Tunggal simultaneously poured the ‘water of life’ Tirta Kamandalu on the scattered parts of the egg. Miraculously, the shell, white and red of the egg turned into three baby figures. Sang Hyang Tunggal gave each baby a name that was created, from the egg shell was named Sang Hyang Antaga, while the baby created from the white of the egg was named Sang Hyang Ismaya, and the baby created from the red of the egg was named Sang Hyang Manikmaya. In the future, these three sons of Sang Hyang Tunggal will have an important role in enlivening the Jagat Pramuditya (wayang).
If there is no character of Dewa Ruci in the set of puppets, this puppet can replace the character of Dewa Ruci. Character Dewa Ruci looks very similar to this puppet, except that he has a face that is similar to that of Bima, a long thumb nail and sarongs (Indonesian clothing) that are the same color as Bima’s. The other form of Dewa Ruci is like Bima, but the puppet is much closer to the size of this puppet, and he wears shoes.
In the Dewa Ruci play, Sang Hyang Tunggal appears as Dewa Ruci and meets Bima at the bottom of the South Sea. The mystical story of Bima's inner journey that led to his meeting with Sang Hyang Tunggal in Dewa Ruci is very good to learn from. Sang Hyang Tunggal was the one who helped Bima surrender to his belief.
In other words, knowledge is related to who humans come from, what humans were created for, and where they will return. Bima is the one who can achieve the science of perfection or is called manunggaling kawula gusti. Bima achieved this because he is one of the characters who is resigned and confident and willing to surrender in a situation. A situation that only God can help.
