| Personal data | Dewi Sumitra is the daughter of Bathara Hira/Prabu Ruryana, the king of the Maespati country, which means the grandson of Prabu Arjunawijaya or Prabu Arjunasasra with his consort Dewi Citrawati. Dewi Sumitra became the third consort of Prabu Dasarata, King of the Ayodya country. The other two consorts of Prabu Dasarata were Dewi Kusalya/Dewi Ragu, the mother of Ramawijaya, and Dewi Kekayi, the mother of Barata. From her marriage to Prabu Dasarata, Dewi Sumitra had a very handsome son named Raden Lesmana who is believed to be the incarnation of Batara Suman. |

Sumitra – (Dewi) – Ramayana
For thirteen years Dewi Sumitra had to be separated from her only son, Lesmana, who went to follow Ramawijaya, leaving the country of Ayodya to undergo the banishment law at the will of Dewi Kekayi.
During that time she faithfully and patiently accompanied and comforted Dewi Kusalya's heart.
Dewi Sumitra is said to have died due to her old age, but she had the chance to see the glory of the country of Ayodya which was led by Prabu Ramawijaya, her stepson, and her only son Lesmana who accompanied him.
