Dursala – (Raden) – Mahabharata
However, despite his bad traits, Dursala is quite diligent in pursuing various supernatural knowledge. Among others, he studied with Begawan Dona and is also the favorite student of Resi Pisaca, a priest in the form of a giant from the Carangwulung hermitage in the Wanayasa forest. Dursala was given Aji Gineng by Bagawan Pisaca which has the power of supernatural powers. Whoever he bullies will have their bodies destroyed.
This incident was actually due to the actions of the Pandawa sons led by Gatotkaca, to hold a war exercise in Tegal Kurukhsetra. This activity without the permission of the Pandawa made Prabu Duryudana angry and sent Dursala to disband the war exercise. A duel took place between Dursala and Gatotkaca. In that match, Gatotkaca lost.
In the play Aji Narantaka, Dursala, using his Aji Gineng, was able to defeat Gatotkaca. The body of the Pringodani knight seemed to be crushed by the blow of Aji Gineng.
Because of that defeat, Gatotkaca then studied with Resi Seta, the son of Prabu Matswapati from Wirata, at the Suhini Hermitage, on the slopes of Mount Selaperwata. From the teacher, who was also considered his grandfather, Gatotkaca obtained the knowledge of Aji Narantaka. Gatotkaca immediately went to look for Dursala.
When the two faced each other again, Gatotkaca won. Dursala died in battle against Gatotkaca when he intended to control the country of Amarta. As a result of being hit by the blow of Aji Narantaka, Dursala's body was destroyed to ashes. This incident occurred some time before the Baratayuda broke out.
The death of Dursala was truly sad for the Kurawa, because in fact Dursasana's son was very much expected to become one of the Senapati in the Baratayuda in the future.
Although Dursala is only a supporting character in the Mahabharata, his role in the story shows the complexity of his character and the power he possesses. With his courage and powers, Dursala remains an important part of this epic narrative.
In Baratayuda, Arya Susena survived, because at that time he was still a child. Because of his trustworthy nature, Susena later became one of the Senapati of the Astina Kingdom during the reign of Prabu Parikesit.
