Antaboga - (Sang Hyang) - All stories

Hyang Antaboga is a deity who resides below the seventh layer of the earth and has a palace in Saptapratala, which means the seventh layer of the earth. He is the Snake God and therefore he can turn into a dragon. The story mentions that the palace under the earth is very beautiful, not unlike the palace of the gods in Suralaya.

Anantaboga is known to be very powerful, he can turn into a human, his behavior, character, speech, song and heart reflect his priesthood. However, when angry, he will wag the tip of his tail which can cause a powerful earthquake that shakes Arcapada and Suralaya. He received the gift of the position of god from King Tribuwana, because of his services. By meditating, he wants to have the magic power of Kemayan so he can change into a human form.

While he was meditating, his mouth was filled with Linggamanik cupu. The cupu was then presented to Sang Hyang Manikmaya. Once opened, a beautiful princess came out of the cupu. The princess was named Dewi Sri who later became Hyang Vishnu's wife. For his services, Anantaboga was awarded the title of Hyang.

In the play "Bale Sigala-gala", Anantaboga helped Goddess Kunti and her sons who were trapped by the Kauravas until they reached Saptapratala. From that meeting, Bima met Dewi Nagagini whom he later made his wife.
In the play "Sumbadra Larung", Hyang Antaboga gave his grandson, Anantareja, supernatural powers, making him immune to all weapons.
In the play "Babad Wana Marta", Hyang Antaboga also helped the Pandavas to get rid of the jinn and demons living in the Mretani forest. The wilderness will be made into the kingdom of Amarta.
