Pandawa are the main characters in the Mahabharata epic. They are the sons of Prabu Panduewanata, the king of the Hastinapura kingdom. The Pandawa are cousins with the Kauravas. Pandu is the younger brother of Destrarasta, the father of the Kauravas.
Yudhistira
He is the eldest Pandawa, his mother is Dewi Kunti. He has a very wise, honest nature and does not want to be hostile to anyone. Yudhistira has the nickname Dharmasuta which means son of Dharma, Ajathasatru which means having no enemies and Bharata which means descendant of Maharaja Bharata.
Bima
Bima or Werkudara is the second Pandawa. His mother is Dewi Kunti. He is the incarnation of Bathara Bayu, so he is nicknamed Bayushuta. Bima is known as a character who is physically tall, has long arms, is very strong and has the most ferocious face compared to the other Pandawa. Although he seems rude and easily angered, he is actually noble-hearted. Bima has a weapon called the Rujakpala mace. His sons are named Gatotkaca, Antareja and Antasena.
Arjuna
Arjuna is the youngest son of Dewi Kunti and Pandu. He is the third Pandawa. Arjuna is the incarnation of the God Indra. He has expertise in archery and he is considered the best knight by his teacher, Begawan Drona. Arjuna has many nicknames, including Dhananjaya, Kirti (the one with the beautiful crown, he was given a beautiful crown by the God Indra, when he was in heaven), Partha (son of Kunti).
Nakula and Sadewa
Nakula is the son of Dewi Madrim and Pandu. He has a twin brother named Sadewa who is also a Pandawa knight. Nakula is the incarnation of the Twin God named Aswin, the God of Medicine, while Sadewa is the incarnation of Aswin too. Nakula is good at playing swords. While Sadewa is a very diligent and wise person. Sadewa is also an expert in astronomy.
In the Mahabharata story, the five Pandawa knights at the end of their lives made a holy journey to the Himalayas. There they died and their souls reached heaven.
