Damagosa - (Prabu) - Mahabharata[edit | edit source]
Prabu Damagosa, was the king of Cedi. He married Prabu Basukunti's eldest daughter, named Dewi Sruta. From this marriage, Prabu Damagosa had a child, Sisupala, who later succeeded him as king of Cedi.
But the child turned out to be born with a disability. It has three eyes, with an additional eye located on its forehead, while its two legs are limp like a snake's body. Because he was very concerned about the condition of his baby, Prabu Damagosa took his wife into the pamujan studio to ask the gods for an explanation about the disaster their family had experienced.
Then a disembodied voice was heard saying that the baby's condition could recover to become a normal baby if it was carried on the lap of an incarnation of Batara Vishnu.
At the selapanan ceremony, King Damagosa held a large thanksgiving ceremony by inviting his entire extended family and the families of neighboring kings. King Cedi hopes that among his guests there will be an incarnation of Batara Vishnu.
In sequence, the baby Sisupala was carried on the laps of the guests, in the hope that one of them would be able to cure the baby's defects. Sisupala apparently recovered from the disability he suffered, after being held on the lap by Naraya (Kresna), Sisupala's cousin.
