Maesasura - (Prabu) - All stories

Because he felt very powerful, Prabu Maesasura came to Kahyangan Kaindran to propose to Dewi Tara, the eldest daughter of Bathara Indra with Dewi Wiyati. If his proposal was rejected, Prabu Maesasura and Jatasura threatened to destroy Kahyangan Keindran with all his very strong troops. Bathara Indra then asked for help from Subali and Sugriwa, both sons of Resi Gotama with Dewi Indradi from the Grastina/Erraya hermitage, to face and kill Prabu Maesasura, Jatasura and Lembusura.

Prabu Maesasura and Jatasura were finally destroyed by Subali who challenged them to enter Gowa Kiskenda. Maesasura and Jatasura's heads were pitted against each other until they broke and died instantly at the same time. While the prime minister of Lembusura was destroyed by Sugriwa.

The story of the glory and fall of King Maesasura provides lessons about power, arrogance, and punishment for evil actions. This legend also highlights the power of brotherhood and friendship in the face of difficult challenges. Even though it has ended, the story of Prabu Maesasura will continue to be remembered as part of the rich cultural heritage and oral tradition in the archipelago.

It was in the Jonggringsalaka palace, Suralaya heaven. King Tribuana, Batara Guru was holding a plenary session of the gods. In the session, Sanghyang Guru discussed the threat of Prabu Maesasura, the demon king of the Goakiskenda country whose proposal to Dewi Tara , the daughter of Batara Indra who resides in Kaindran heaven, had been rejected.

The words of Sanghyang Girinata were on the golden dampar mercupunda. “Batara, Dewata, Jawata Sangsanga. Prepare yourselves to face the possible threat of Maesasura who will cause unrest in the Suralaya godhood, because his proposal to Dewi Tara has been rejected. To Indra, I assign the responsibility of leading the godhood troops in facing the power of the Goakiskenda demon army who will cause unrest, disturbing the peace of Suralaya.”

The gods immediately carried out King Tribuana's order, they then prepared themselves to welcome King Duramaka who had bad intentions towards the peace of the godhead. Batara Narada, Batara Bayu, and Batara Brahma, also accompanied Batara Indra.
Gebyar Jagatpramudita. The earth shook, the sky twinkled. Suddenly Candradimuka roared, spewing its hot lava. Its black smoke curled up in the sky, covering the Suralaya heaven, as a sign that there would be chaos in the heaven.
Not long after the Candradimuka crater erupted, spewing its lava accompanied by black smoke and a shaking sound, from the direction of the Selamatangkep gate, two duruwiksa guards of the godhead gate, Cingkarabala and Balaupata ran towards the square of the Suralaya heaven. Both of them reported to Batara Narada that the Goakiskenda ghost army had been seen moving towards the Suralaya heaven.

Batara Narada and Batara Indra gave orders to the kadewatan troops to immediately block Goakiskenda's troops on the slopes of Mount Mahameru. Batara Indra avoided fighting in the heavenly environment, because it was feared that it would damage the order of Suralaya. The kadewatan troops led by Batara Indra immediately flew away to welcome the enemy's arrival.

On the slopes of Mount Mahameru, the Kadewatan troops had blocked the Goakiskenda troops. The two battle-ready camps were facing each other, they were ready to wait for orders from their respective leaders.
"Oladalaa… Maesasura! You have dared to threaten the peace of Suralaya. Hyang Otipati will punish your actions. Remember Maesasura! In the past, Manikmaya had conquered Goakiskenda and forgiven you. For that, before everything is too late, it is better for you and all your troops to return to Goakiskenda." Batara Narada tried to remind Prabu Maesasura, so that the Duratmaka king would cancel his intention to commit treason in Kadewata.

Maesasura and Lembusura were two giant ghost brothers who lived in the Goakiskenda kingdom. Maesasura crowned himself king in Goakiskenda, and Lembusura was appointed as his prime minister. The name Maesasura itself has the meaning, Maesa = Buffalo, Sura = Brave or powerful. The form of Prabu Maesasura is a giant with a Buffalo head. While Lembusura is a giant with a Cow head, according to his name, Lembu = Cow, Sura = Brave or Powerful. Prabu Maesasura has a giant-faced lion mount named Jatasura.

The people of Goakiskenda are a nation of animal spirits with various forms. In the past, when Sanghyang Manikmaya had just been crowned King of Tribuana by Hyang Tunggal , the kingdom of Goakiskenda was once colonized. Maesasura and Lembusura were once conquered by Hyang Manikmaya. And it turned out that both of them still held a grudge, wanting to avenge their defeat, so they both studied with a powerful sage named Resi Wisalodra. In order for their strength and supernatural powers to multiply and be difficult to match, the two of them then united their souls. Two bodies in one soul. If one dies, the other will bring it back to life.

Prabu Maesasura snorted, his growl shaking the earth he stepped on. “Huahahaha… Hey gods! You think you are the only ones who are victorious! If in the past Manikmaya had conquered Kiskenda, now I have come to avenge that defeat! Tell Manikmaya, hand over Dewi Tara to me or I will overgrow heaven with reeds!”
Prabu Maesasura’s words made Batara Indra’s ears hot, riding the war elephant Erawata, Batara Indra advanced forward.
“Arrogant! Your mouth is presumptuous, Maesasura! Today I will bring you to your death, melting with your lustful lust in the heat of the Candradimuka crater!”

The two armies immediately attacked each other when their respective leaders gave the battle order. The war took place on the slopes of Mount Mahameru, the enormity of which made the atmosphere around the slopes become chaotic. Batara Indrariding the war elephant Erawata shot into the air, followed by King Maesasura riding Jatasura. They engaged in a duel in the sky, both competing with each other in supernatural powers and competing with each other in heirloom weapons.

Goakiskenda's stealthy and fierce army continued to attack the Kadewatan army along with Mahapatih Lembusura. Although the Kadewatan army released heirlooms and supernatural powers, Lembusura's blind rampage left the Kadewatan army in a desperate situation.

On a towering cliff, Batara Narada , Batara Bayu , and Batara Brahma watched the course of the war. After seeing the strength of the opposing forces able to push the god forces, Batara Narada signaled Batara Bayu and Batara Brahma to immediately jump into the battlefield. Bayu and Brahma immediately jumped into the yuda palagan. The presence of both made the Kiskenda forces turn back, pressed by the supernatural power of Batara Bayu and Batara Brahma.
Batara Bayu released the Bayubajra aji which caused a very powerful hurricane. The hurricane fortress hit Goakiskenda's troops until many of the ghost soldiers were killed, destroyed and thrown back by the waves of wind. Lembusura charged towards Bayu's power. Bayubajra's hurricane fortress was hit until it turned around and hit Batara Bayu. The god who lived in the Panglawung heaven was hit by his own power, he was thrown down and hit the mountain rocks until a landslide occurred.

At the same time, in the sky, Batara Indra unleashed a thunderbolt. The thunder of lightning licked the body of Prabu Maesasura until the giant's body fell from Jatasura's back. Likewise, Jatasura, who was off guard because he saw his king fall, was also crushed by the Bajra heirloom by the Elephant Erawata. Maesasura and Jatasura fell down in the middle of the battle. The troops of the gods cheered when they saw the demon king Kiskenda had fallen after being hit by Indra's thunderbolt, but the cheers of the gods were only for a moment, because they saw Prabu Maesasura rise again from his death.

Lord Brahma released the Banaspati amulet. The fire burned out of Brahma's body. The Banaspati flame grew larger and then shot out to hit Lembusura, but King Maesasura who had stood firm charged and kicked Banaspati until the Brahma flame scattered and hit back towards the Kadewatan army. The gods screamed at the Brahma flame. Lord Indra quickly released the Chandrasa amulet to protect the Kadewatan army. Immediately, heavy rain fell to extinguish the flames.

The hustle and bustle of battle obscured the view. Mountain mist, smoke, fire, dust and heavy rain were used by Prabu Maesasura to break into the heaven. Using the halimun spell, Maesasura and Jatasura left the battlefield, they broke through the Selamatangkep gate. Secretly they sneaked into the heaven and continued to break in looking for the Papariwarna guesthouse, where the nymphs resided.
The war was still raging, the gods and demons were robbing each other, as was Lembusura who was fighting to match Brahma, but Batara Indra himself felt suspicious when he no longer found Mahesasura and Jatasura in the hustle and bustle of battle. His instincts told him that his daughter was in danger, so he immediately rushed to the Suralaya heaven.

In the Suralaya heaven, Batara Indra was very angry when he saw the nymphs screaming in fear, scattering out of the Papariwarna guest house. Prabu Maesasura had succeeded in kidnapping Dewi Tara, Batara Indra's daughter had been lying unconscious on Prabu Maesasura's left shoulder.

"Cunning nonsense! You are indeed Duratmakas who have no manners!"
The duel occurred again between Batara Indra and Prabu Mahesasura, but Indra became confused when he was about to release his lightning power, because his daughter was in the grip of his opponent. Prabu Maesasura did not waste the opportunity, Batara Indra was gored, and Gajah Erawata was kicked until it bounced. Seeing Indra and Erawata still lying down, Prabu Maesasura immediately left the heaven. He flew away with Jatasura.

Meanwhile, Lembusura who was facing Brahma's supernatural powers was hit several times with the Banaspati magic. Batara Bayu did not remain silent, he helped Brahma with the Bayubajra magic. Fire and wind rolled against each other, attacking Lembusura. The Mahapatih Goakiskenda was captured and dragged by Batara Bayu and Brahma, then Lembusura was stabbed with Pacanaka until his body was torn. At the same time from above the sky, Prabu Maesura who had left heaven saw Lembusura being dragged by the gods, Prabu Maesasura and Jatasura swooped down on Batara Bayu and Batara Brahma. The two gods were hit with the Gada heirloom, then from Prabu Maesasura's mouth came a very large flame, rivaling Brahma's fire. The gods retreated to avoid Maesasura's threat.

Lembusura who had been lying down was then touched by Maesasura, instantly Mahapatih Goakiskenda recovered from his death. Prabu Maesasura then signaled to Lembusura to pull the army back to Goakiskenda.

Batara Indra with his Erawatan had just arrived when Prabu Maesasura and his troops had left the battlefield. Batara Indra intended to pursue Kiskenda's troops but Batara Narada stopped him. Batara Narada advised Indra to withdraw his troops back to Suralaya and report the incident to King Tribuana.

Batara Narada called Hyang Baruna , he asked for help to heal and revive the unconscious gods and palastra with Tirta Kamandalu.
Feeling overwhelmed when facing Maesasura and Lembusura, Batara Guru and Batara Narada went down to Arcapada to look for a divine champion who could defeat Prabu Maesa Sura and Lembu Sura. Batara Guru rode the Andini bull while Batara Narada followed Batara Guru's departure.
Arriving above the Yamuna River, Batara Guru saw a light the size of a palm leaf radiating into the sky. It turned out that the light came from Dewi Anjani who was meditating. Batara Guru felt sorry for Dewi Anjani who rarely got food to enter her mouth. Batara Guru picked a young sinom leaf or tamarind leaf, and threw it in front of Dewi Anjani's mouth. Seeing food in front of her, Dewi Anjani immediately devoured it. What happened?

With the power of Batara Guru, Dewi Anjani became a two-body, her face and limbs that were in the form of a monkey returned to being a beautiful goddess. Later, Dewi Anjani gave birth to a child in the form of a white monkey, who was given the name Anoman . Batara Guru called several nymphs to dress and make up her face. Then Batara Guru ordered the nymphs to take Dewi Anjani to heaven.
Batara Guru and Batara Narada continued their journey to the Sunyapringga forest to meet Subali who was meditating in a large tree. Subali was woken up and invited to meet Sugriwa. They finally met Sugriwa. Batara Guru ordered Subali and Sugriwa to save Dewi Tara who was kidnapped by Prabu Maesasura and Lembusura. And if successful, they would be given the gift of Dewi Tara to be their wife. After delivering the messages, Batara Guru and Batara Narada returned to heaven.

Without further ado, they immediately headed to Goa Kiskenda. Upon arriving at Goa Kiskenda they were blocked by Kiskenda troops, after going through a fierce battle they were finally able to defeat the Goa Kiskenda troops and successfully free Dewi Tara. For the safety of Dewi Tara, Subali gave Sugriwa the task of taking her out of the cave first while Subali would face Maesasura and Lembusura.
Subali was upset. In his heart he was not sure they could defeat King Maesasura and Lembusura, while the gods themselves were not able to defeat him. Subali told Sugriwa to wait in front of the cave door. Meanwhile, Subali himself would fight King Maesasura and Lembusura. If there was red blood flowing to the cave door, it meant that Subali could defeat Maesasura and Lembsura. And if there was white blood flowing to the cave door, it was a sign that Subali was dead and Sugriwa was asked to close the cave door. Sugriwa cried when he heard his brother's message but Sugriwa was ready to carry out his orders. As we know, Subali was bleeding white next to Begawan Bagaspati and King Puntadewa.

Hearing the commotion, Prabu Maesasura and Lembu Sura came out of the palace. They found that Dewi Tara had disappeared and there was only a monkey man in front of them, namely Subali. Maesasura and Lembusura's anger immediately exploded. Without further ado, they immediately attacked Subali. This time Subali's opponent was very tough, Prabu Maesasura died many times, then Lembusura jumped over him, Prabu Maesasura came back to life and vice versa.
With the remaining strength Subali immediately smashed his two enemy heads into pieces. The blood and brains of King Maesasura and Lembusura flowed throughout the cave. Sugriwa, who was waiting for his brother at that time, was shocked to see red blood and white blood flowing together to the cave door. Sugriwa wept over his brother's death. Sugriwa thought that his brother, Subali, had died, after successfully defeating Maesasura and Lembusura, it was proven that there was red blood flowing with his brother's white blood.

According to his brother's message, Sugriwa closed the cave door with rocks. Sugriwa went to heaven to hand over Dewi Tara and report the incident that had occurred in Kiskenda Cave. In heaven, Sugriwa was received by Bathara Guru. According to Batara Guru, Batara Guru would bestow Dewi Tara on Sugriwa to be his wife. With a heavy heart, Sugriwa accepted it, because he felt that Subali was more deserving. Sugriwa and Dewi Tara then left heaven for Kiskenda Cave.

Meanwhile, Subali was trapped in the cave. Subali was angry because his younger brother cheated on him. Subali forgot the message he had given to his younger brother. Subali meditated and asked for help from the gods to open the cave door. With full strength, Subali hit the rocks until they shattered into pieces.
After leaving the cave, Subali went to heaven to meet Batara Guru. Subali reported all the incidents to Batara Guru. Batara Guru could not do anything. Because Dewi Tara had already been given to Sugriwa, because Subali was considered dead. However, Batara Guru would not forget Subali's services. He gave Subali the Pancasona aji which has great power. The Pancasona aji makes its owner powerful and does not die if his body touches the ground.
Meanwhile, Sugriwa and Dewi Tara had resided in Goa Kiskenda. Not long after, Subali entered the Goa Kiskenda palace, seeing his brother sitting side by side with Dewi Tara, Subali immediately pulled Sugriwa and hit him.
He pulled Sugriwa's body out of the cave. A fight broke out between the two brothers. Neither of them wanted to give in so their fight lasted for several days and nights. Subali was furious. Sugriwa's body was finally thrown far out of the Kiskenda Cave area. Sugriwa fell in the Pancawati forest.
