Surya - (Batara) - All stories

Sanghyang Wenang gave Dewi Ngruna and Dewi Ngruni two eggs each. The eggs given to Dewi Ngruna, when the time came, hatched into twin garudas which were then named Sampati and Jatayu. These two Garudas are important figures in the epic Ramayana. Meanwhile, the eggs given to Goddess Ngruni hatched into countless snakes. Garuda Sampati and Jatayu are the sons of Garuda Aruna, another son of Goddess Sweni. Garuda Aruna and Garudha are the sons of Rishi Kasyapa with Goddess Winata. While the dragon or snake race is also the prince of Resi Kasyapa with his wife named Dewi Kadru.

Apart from Dewi Ngruna and Dewi Ngruni, Batara Surya also had another wife, namely Dewi Prati or Dewi Haruni, the daughter of Sanghyang Ramaparwa who was none other than the son of Sanghyang Wening. His official son was named Batara Rawiatmaja who later bequeathed kings in the Maespati country, and among them were Prabu Arjunawijaya or Arjunasasrabahu and Sumantri.

Batara Surya once gave Cupu Manik Astagina to Dewi Indra which caused misery to Dewi Indradi and her children, namely Dewi Anjani, Subali and Sugriwa, who all changed into monkeys, including their caretakers.
In the play Pandu Krama, Dewi Kunthi, the daughter of King Kuntiboja from the kingdom of Mandura, has a son named Karna or Suryatmaja and is also known as Suryaputra, the duke of Awangga. Dewi Kunti had a son Karna because she disobeyed the order of her teacher, Resi Druwasa, not to say Aji Pameling Wekasing Tunggal when the sun rises (Java: Wayah Tengange).
Because she violated her teacher's message, Dewi Kunthi said the aji Pameling Wekasing Tunggal, so Batara Surya came to meet Dewi Kunthi. As a result, Dewi Kunthi became pregnant with a baby who was born from her ear and named Karna.

Batara Surya has a ride in the form of a chariot pulled by seven horses. The chariot was once borrowed by Batara Vishnu when he defeated Prabu Watugunung, the king of the Giliwengsi kingdom.
Sanghyang Surya was the one who knew who stole Tirta Amerta or the lost water of life from Kadewataan, who was none other than Kala Rahu. As a result, Batara Surya was threatened by Kala Rahu, and would be swallowed. If Sanghyang Surya can be captured and swallowed by Kala Rahu, then the solar eclipse that we know today will occur.
Batara Surya is the Sun God and his heaven is called Ekacakra. It illuminates the arcapada, providing freedom for living creatures to grow and develop during the day.
