Citrarata – (Prabu) – Mahabharata

Prabu Citrarata was a young handsome king who enjoyed hunting deer in the forest. One morning in the forest, he was bathing at the river before a hunt. Little did he know that someone was watching him from the other side of the river. The beautiful woman, named Dewi Renuka, who was also the wife of Begawan Jamadagni, quietly began to take her clothes off and swam towards the young handsome man. Without caring about her dignity as a woman, Dewi Renuka gave her body to Prabu Citrarata. Beside the river Prabu Citrarata and Dewi Renuka made love that morning. This affair carried on for many days, until he had to leave the forest to follow the hunt.

The rest of this story is also told in the story for the character Dewi Renuka.

Because she had an affair with Prabu Citrarata, Dewi Renuka was sentenced to death by her husband. The executioner who carried out the sentence was Rama Bargawa, her own youngest son.
The rest of this story is also told in the story for the character Rama Bargawa.

Prabu Citrarata finally died at the hands of Rama Bargawa, who deliberately came to the Martikawata Kingdom to take revenge. Citrarata was blamed for abusing his position and good looks, thus bringing disaster to Rama Bargawa's family.

Some puppeteers argue that Prabu Citrarata is not identical to Batara Citrarata. Both are different characters.
The adulterous act between Prabu Citrarata and Dewi Renuka is only told in puppetry. In the Mahabharata, the two of them never had an affair, but were slandered and rumored to be having an affair.
