Emban - (Servant) - All stories
Emban are female servants, they have a low position in the Javanese kraton. They are comic characters and appear in all stories. Emban performs at the beginning of a performance and provides a glimpse of the story to come. The most common are Emban Geulis, Emban Kembu and Emban Nini Nini.
Emban Geulis is the attractive maid and performs a dance.
Emban Kembu is the fat and rough maid, she is funny and very stupid, but she has a good heart and is steadfastly loyal to her superiors. Her temperament is sweet.
Emban Nini Nini has a Sirih plum, also called old lady's plum, in her mouth. Nini Nini means grandma, which explains the hair on her face.
Babu Emban Sainem is a nanny and a servant. Both prefixes of her name refers to a person with the mentioned occupation.
