	\|Personal data=Bh		\|Personal data=Bhishma was the son of Prabu Santanu and Dewi Gangga , he was the incarnation of one of the Eight Wasu named Prabhata and he was born as Dewabrata . Bhishma was the grandfather of the Pandavas and Kauravas. When he was young, his real name was Dewabrata, but after he made Bhishan Pratigya , namely an oath to remain celibate forever and not inherit his father's throne, his name changed to Bhishma (Sanskrit Bhishma ; which means "He whose oath is terrible"). This was done because he did not want him and his descendants to clash with the descendants of his stepmother, Setyawati. Bhishma actually had seven older siblings, but all of them died because they were drowned in the Ganges river by their own mother, the Goddess Gangga. From his stepmother, Bisma had two younger half-brothers, namely Citranggada and Wicitrawirya.
